Five Things Not To Do To Your Clip-In Extensions

Clip-in extensions are great for anyone looking to have fuller or longer hair. Clip-ins are painless and easy to care for, and they are not noticeable. However, many people make mistakes when wearing clip-in extensions that can lead to problems. Here are five things you should not do:

Bleach the Extensions: Most likely, the clip-in extensions that you have were already put through a number of chemical treatments, and bleaching can just completely destroy them. If you want lighter clip-in extensions, wait for your next appointment to try and treat your own hair to match lighter extensions. Bleaching extensions will just cause damage that can't be undone, and you will have to go in sooner for your next appointment.

Wash the Extensions: You also should not wash the extensions. When you wash your hair, the extensions need to be taken out. Clip-in extensions do not need to be washed because they do not produce natural oils. This means that washing the extensions will only cause them to appear dry. If you feel like they need some kind of washing, using a spritz from your salon is the best way to do it.

Use Heating Tools: If you are going to wash your own hair, do not clip the extensions back in until you have already blow dried your hair. You don't want to go overboard on heating treatments. While you might need to touch up on straightening or curling the extensions, it's fine, but going overboard can cause serious damage. And when you do use a straightening or curling iron, be sure to have it on low heat.

Cut the Extensions: Cutting the extensions on your own can be a huge problem that leads to more money out of your pocket should you need to go in and fix them or get new ones. Instead, schedule an appointment to have the clip-ins cut to your desired length.

Sleep With the Extensions: Finally, you must be sure that you take your extensions out when you sleep. If you sleep with your clip-in extensions in, it can cause serious problems with matting. This makes it harder to brush out the extensions, which means you need to replace them sooner rather than later. On top of this, they can get caught in your own hair and become difficult to take out, which can be painful.

When you avoid doing these five things, you can make the most out of your clip-in extensions. Contact a company like M&M Beauty Supply & Wigs to learn more.
